
Ficus palmeri. One of many varieties of Banyan who’s seeds settle on another tree (strangler fig) or a rock and send out descending aerial roots to thicken, store water and form buttresses for it’s immense canopy. This one, palmeri, a native of the Sonora desert. “Banyan” comes from the Bengali word bania, or merchant, after those who would shelter under its great canopy to trade. Who knew hey! Now you do 🤗
